Leaving KNX

So long KNX! We booked in for 3 nights back in October 2017… our time is up. 🙂
just added some pics!!!

What an exhausting few weeks Tim has had. Me, well me not so much. I helped where I could and provided laughs when I tried to lift a 55kg tyre into the back of the ute.

Tim did provide a quote for this post, but after censorship it reads as ‘What a jolly big week. Glad its over!’.

Tim finished re-wiring the car and it’s now set for the next leg of our journey. How long we keep the car this way is anyone’s guess – as was our departure date – a running joke with everyone who knows us! Hahaha.

So before heading off we snuck up the river to see if we could spot any waterfalls – we did see a couple small ones and managed to get in a few swims. It was simply stunning, we even rode back in the rain – thanks to Hagrid for taking us out!

We also took Tim’s new toy for a spin over Blackrock Falls – I’ll add it once we figure out the software, trust me when I say it is stunning!

As some of you may know, I recently had my 40th. I was spoilt by our park family who put on a dinner for us last Thursday and then surprised me with gifts, flowers, balloons as well as ending the day at the Pumphouse having pizza and drinks.

To say we have enjoyed our time in Kununurra is an understatement. We were blessed meeting the people we have met, going to all the different places we visited and enjoyed the change of pace, living here brought us. So now we embark on an epic trip of the west coast. We finally dusted off our books that we got from the caravan and camping show in Brisbane back in 2015. We have been looking forward to exploring the west coast for so long now.

For now, we have no place to be and no real time limit. So we will check in when we check in and let you know what we get up to on either facebook or insta. I’ll try and post, but you know me, I usually do the posts once we stop.

Karunjie Track

Check out our recent adventure and Ty’s cool video of our day exploring the Karunjie Track!

As Tim has recently sorted the diff guard and shock guards on the car, we thought it best to go on a wee adventure – so off to the infamous Karunjie Track. We went with some mates and took our cars for a spin. At first, it seemed to be a little underwhelming, as it was more of a Sunday drive – just off-road, but still good fun.

The route we were on, took us past a Prison Tree. These Boab trees were used as a lock-up for Indigenous Australian’s who were on their way for sentencing in the nearby town of Wyndham.

A little past the Prison Tree we stopped to let the tyres down and have a gander at some cattle. One of the great highlights of this trip was that we drove around the Cockburn Ranges. These ranges are spectacular and seem to change colour throughout the day.

Then we entered another property, the track is certainly not maintained on this end and it’s not till you get out to open and close the gates, that you see that they have ‘no entry’ signs on the opposite side of the gate. These signs are lacking when travelling from Wyndham to the Gibb, which could be why, that’s the direction most people go. 🙂

The road was now slow going but again, so much to see. We came across damns with an abundance of bird life, some lost travelers, as well as the old Mt Cockburn Lodge,  then tracked our way down the Pentecost – naturally stopping every so often for a fish. The Metre Barra still eludes us.

We finally reach the Gibb mid afternoon, Tim was about to turn left (homeward bound) and I almost died. I put my foot down. I wanted to cross the Pentecost- it was right there. About 40 meters or so to our right. I wanted to take, what I see, as the Iconic Gibb River Road photo – our main pic for today. I mean seriously, could it get any better? That’s the Pentecost in front of the magnificent Cockburn Rangers!

Our day certainly ended on a high and rather than bombard you with pictures, Tybias was kind enough to let me share this with you.

Amazing

What an amazing day!

That would be the word used to describe our weekend. The last few hours at least.

We decided to do the Mitchell Falls. Not by driving up, but via a flight. So Saturday we were in bed early as we were getting up at 4 am to get ready for the big day.

Kununurra had other plans. You see the Ag Show was on. Not to mention, the neighbors over the back didn’t want to be outdone. So up until 11pm we had two different types of music going and thankfully the show finished. Sadly, the neighbors didn’t. I dreamt of all the ways Bobby Leigh Swagger would handle the situation and the best I came up with was that he’d use a shot gun on the speakers and then sniper the power points. I could dream… well I tried, this was the closest I got.

So our alarms went off at 4 and as we finished our coffee, our back neighbors decided they had had enough and turned off their music. It was going to be a long day.

We were collected from our accommodation and were introduced to our pilot Tim who was taking a gang of 10 to the falls. Now no complaining you lot. We didn’t fly all that way. We landed at the airport out from the falls and were choppered into the camp ground. First chopper ride for the both of us and it was exciting!

We regrouped at the base before our hike to the falls. And the walk was spectacular! We saw some indigenous art, walked along side a creek, experienced Little and Big Merten Falls before laying our eyes on the Mitchell River and then the falls.

The very last crossing our guide advised us to take off our shoes and cross in our socks. Something I know my mother would never approve of. For the next 10 mins, all I could hear was my mother ‘tsking’ and saying ‘how many times have I told you not to walk around in just your socks?’. I’m sorry mum, I still love you! Xo

So after the final crossing we grabbed a bite to eat, swapped a yarn or two and then Tim and I went and got some pics of the falls. After which we simply enjoyed our time up there by relaxing and having a swim.

It was refreshing.

The fun didn’t stop there. You see, we also got a heli flight down the falls! It was so exciting and simply beautiful. The helicopter took us back to the airstrip and we couldn’t believe our eyes, but we were able to see the corregations in the road – from the helicopter! Our pilot told us while we were swimming he had a chat with a lad that drove in and this lad spent the first day cleaning his fridge out as everything came out of the containers. Stew everywhere!!!

So yes, we are very happy we flew up to these majestic falls!

Something we will both remember for a long time. Also, I finally got a pic of Tim sleeping!!!

What a great day!

Our anniversary weekend.

A bit of what we got up to over the weekend!

It’s been a while since we went camping but we were certainly due for an adventure this weekend and that’s just what we did.

It might not sound too exciting to you, but we ended up playing catch up on Saturday. You see we’ve been chasing our tails a bit lately as we are venturing into caravan repairs. It seems to be keeping us both busy and gainfully employed. So Jo worked on streamlining our process while Tim was busy sorting out our car. Nothing major just ongoing maintenance that comes with off road vehicles.

Saturday night we ended up watching Deadpool 2 at the drive in and Sunday has been a grand adventure!

We started at Lake Argle for the markets – you wouldn’t believe it, we missed the markets but the coffee and views were worth it!

We then did a but of off roading out to Thompson Springs before heading out for an afternoon sesh at the Hoochery. The watermelon mojito and ginger mojito were amazing! 🍹

Love is…

I’ll add some photos when I get the chance.

I’m procrastinating and decided it was best to do so while connecting with you all.

Strange title today, but I’m trying to sort out the bookwork ~ and as you know, I suck at this. So it’s 10 past procrastination on the beer clock! Yes, no sense I know but hey, that’s how I get when I do the books.

So grab a beer, follow me down the rabbit hole and I’ll fill you in on the last few months.

We got home to our van in February and have been a bit on the busy side. I got what I thought would be my dream job at El Questro, lasted 6 weeks and left.  Ah hospitality, now I realised I never missed you.

I am now at the Kununurra Visitor Centre – where I get paid to talk to people and it is a great way to see the area and find out what we want to do here. I have a list and hopefully we will get most of it completed prior to leaving as we are not sure if/when we will be back up this way.

Tim is currently working out at the Argyle Diamond Mine. Ah, lucky him! Did you know there is a shop on site where the workers can purchase a diamond? How great is that! I wonder how to put the purchase of a diamond through the bookwork… I’m not really a fan of pink, but for this, I’d make an exception!

The most recent trip I have had was up to Kalumburu – amazing place with the most fantastic museum with some great historical information. Did you know Kalumburu was bombed in World War II??? 7 people died in the bombing. It may not sound like much to you, but it isn’t a big town. I was told the current population is around 200 people.

Back to this museum. It has the most eclectic collection. They have local art and art from around the world, and such a rich history from a tiny, remote town. I mean, they had a tea cup from Argentina that you drink yerba maté with, the most sensationally carved emu eggs and Spanish medals from the 18 century. Not to mention an amazing collection from the local Indigenous community including artefacts and current local art.

Even the church there is worth the visit.

But enough with the procrastinating, I need to get back to it. So love is… you guessed it – doing the bookwork!
